Tosa Ken Dogs - Characteristic Temperamental Traits

Tosa Ken Dogs were originally bred to be calm and reserved dogs, as the fighting dog in Japan had to fight silently. The Tosa Ken dog always places its family first and foremost, and is highly responsive and has a sensitive ear that distinguishes the slightest difference in the tone of the master's voice. The fighting origins of the Tosa Ken gave it an extremely high pain tolerance. These dogs do well with children, but due to the dogs' past as successful fighting dogs, they should not be kept with large dogs in one room. This large breed requires an experienced owner.

Tosa Ken Dogs - Fighting Dogs

Dog fighting was a very popular spectacular sport in Japan. Tosa fighting could be compared with Sumo wrestling. Tosa Inus wore special embroidered ceremonial robes and were placed into a ring to fight. Dog fighting is still practiced in Japan nowadays. The tradition of dog fighting runs especially high in the Tosa district of Shikoku.

Tosa Ken Dogs - Exercise Requirement

The breed needs average amount of exercise. Tosa Inus make excellent jogging companions and will benefit if their master will give them more exercise for healthier condition. Walk your dog daily and give it an opportunity to play and run. Tosa Ken dogs are large muscular dogs that need exercise.
